Health Insurance For All

Reading the blog "With Liberty and Health Care for All" you would think having health insurance is a burden. What I find interesting is that the author talks about people barely not being able to make ends meet much less be able to pay for heath insurance. What the blog does not say is that if a person makes less than a certain income then the govt. will help pay for the insurance. It is like the Children's Health Insurance that we now have.

I agree with the author that it is unfair to ask our citizens to pay a penalty for not having insurance but right now we are paying for the uninsured as it is. People who go to emergency rooms without insurance still get seen and it's us taxpayers who get stuck with the bill. I do not see why we can't shift some of the burden to people and make them have some kind of health insurance.

It is not fair for tax payers to pay for medicaid for an illegal immigrant who comes into the U.S and have their kids here, but we do it because the law states that if a person is born in the United States then they are a automatic citizen, whether or not their parent is a citizen or legal resident of the states.

I do not see the problem with making people carry health insurance like we do with car insurance. You get a ticket and penalize if you do not have car insurance so why can't we do the same with health insurance. It might lessen the burden on the tax payers who do pay taxes.

The author's claim that it would only burden people especially Texans to carry health insurance is a legit one but it does not tell the reality that uninsured people puts more of a burden on tax payers and with Texas having about 45-50% of people uninsured then it's the Texans who have that huge bill to pay.

  1. I totally agree with Brittanie that health care should be mandatory for all Texans. Right now, Texas law mandates ALL Texas driver carry at the minimum, liabity insurance on thier vehicle, so why not treat health care the same way? It's not like we are not already paying for those who do not have health insurance, we are, one way or the other....all mostly in taxes. Right now, tax payers are paying for everyone who recieves care in an emergency room (which is primarily how those who are uninsured recieve care). Not having insurance and providing preventative care, only makes the bill larger for tax payers on the back end. One in four Texans do not have health care, that is alot of people, Texas has to do something.
Believe me, I'm not in favor of paying more taxes, but, where there is a will there's a way. I remember voters being enraged when Texas passed the law requiring drivers to have liability insurance, but this law has actually been pretty good, it's helped protect all drivers. Brittanie suggest mandating health insurance might lower the burden on tax payers, I agree. I think doing what we can on the front end to prevent illnesses, and protect and cover Texans will eventually bring cost down. Are there any flaws with the law? Yes, there potential flaws with every law, but it does more good than harm. After all, this is America, not a third-world country. If we can spend $1.05 trillion dollars on the war in Iraq, we can definetely find a way to pay for our citizens who are suffering and dying because they are not insured...that's just wrong!

  2. Just an FYI--- your taxes pay for Medicare and Medicaid patients. Uninsured people at ER's are either written off or paid for by charities. High insurance prices are because of what hospitals charge insurance companies for services- which results in how some of stuff written off is paid
